In the past a skilled artisan valued his tools in three ways: firstly – and obviously – they had to do the job; secondly, the materials they were made of had to be familiar and trustworthy – good wood, good metal; thirdly, they had to possess a certain aesthetic quality beyond mere functionality (we are thinking of course of a very old tradition in France and England, embodied in the 19th century by, for example, William Morris ). A collector of historic garden tools that we know has gone through piles of old implements and catalogues, and helped us make a selection. Here are the very first results – four garden tools, made specially for us in the old style by the Dutch toolsmiths' firm Sneeboer & Co.
These crisp, fresh-tasting biscuits have been made by the Kemm Family bakery in Hamburg since 1782 – the recipe has been handed down generation by generation – and they have slowly become the family ‘trademark’. Their slightly gingery, spicy taste is hard to describe – you just have to try them! People usually eat them by themselves, with butter, or as coffee-biscuits: a real German habit is to eat them for breakfast on top of buttered rolls! A clever idea – use them in gravy to give it a special touch! » to the product...
This cold bag – a distinct advance on the usual picnic "cooler bag" – are made by Didgeridoonas®, a Queensland firm, one of the hottest places in the world, where they understand these things ! First comes an insulating layer of quilted wool – the same technique as used by sheep that manage to keep themselves pleasantly warm in both winter and summer. Sheep's wool fibres contain a mass of tiny hollow cavities that provide excellent insulation.
The outside of the bag is made of oilskin . » to the product...

The Elfenbein firm of bookbinders in East Berlin has been manufacturing card index holders and other filing equipment since 1870. The Elfenbein card index boxes are carefully made by hand using plywood and marbled paper. They are extremely tough and can be stacked. » to the product...
Anyone who throws a boomerang – just for fun, or whatever – always notices one thing: it's not only the boomerang that comes back, but also the pleasure in throwing things that you once had as a child. Soon you're immersed in the magical world of ballistic disciplines like Fast Catch, Trick Catch or Juggling. The original boomerangs were used by the Aborigines for hunting – they were bigger and heavier, and flew at their prey in a straight line. Today's boomerang is small and light, and flies back to the thrower.
