It is common practice to produce garden tools by pressing and rolling processes. The difference between such tools and forged oned need hardly be explained. The photographs speak volumes. Only with forging all the small details can be attended to and the materials compressed or reinforced where necessary.
Its special feature is that its back (or face) is forged in the form of a hammer - and a particularly broad one at that. It really comes into its own, therefore, when cleaving large blocks of wood: The blade impacts with the force of more than three kilos, excluding your own strength. If the wood is not split on the first stroke, simply upend the cleaving hammer together with the wood and hit the chopping block with the hammer face. An additional steel sleeve beneath the head of the hammer protects the upper section of the helve against damage if it slips.
