An everyday spade for working in the garden, with a wider blade especially suited for the loose, sandy soil (very common in the northern German Holstein region). Carbon steel, D-shaped ash handle. Blade 27 x 17 cm. Total length 118 cm. Weight 2 kg.
Since 1878, the Baack Company, incidentally the last spade blacksmiths left in Germany today, have been forging carbon steel spades – not drop-forged but under the mighty strokes of the drop hammer with the blacksmith holding the piece. The blade is conically shaped, so that it actually re-sharpens itself when used. The crosspiece is also forged, not pressed – as is customary in mass produced spades today – so the soil is unlikely to cling to the tool. Of the existing variety of the mostly traditional and partly really special spade shapes, we offer two which are great for everyday gardening.
