    General Information

EDC classic and versatile everyday hero

The design for this handy pocket knife comes from the American Lucas Burnley, but it is manufactured in the blade city of Solingen by the knife manufacturer Boker. With its wide, drop-shaped blade and long bolsters, the knife is in the tradition of the Barlow, an English pocket knife shape that can be traced back to the 17th century. The name probably goes back to a knife manufacturer in Sheffield who began exporting the compact, solid knives to North America around 1800. There they quickly established themselves as an extremely useful, almost indispensable pocket knife (the addition BFF - Best Friend Forever - is not in the name of the knife for nothing). As the Everyday Carry, they made their way back to Europe, where such a Barlow knife finally landed in Solingen at Boker at the end of the 19th century and has been produced there ever since.

In this version with a fixed blade, Boker manufactures the Barlow BFF from Swedish, ice-hardened AEB-L. This versatile blade steel is characterized by excellent cutting ability, edge retention and good rust resistance, and blades made from it are easy to resharpen. The knife is manufactured as a full tang, i.e. from a single piece of continuous steel - from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle - which gives it particularly high stability and resilience. Local walnut wood is used for the handle scales, which is finely sanded and oiled so that it feels pleasantly warm in the hand. The large hollow brass rivet serves primarily as a lanyard hole, but also provides a decorative accent together with the rivets. The supplied black sheath made from vegetable-tanned, strong cowhide is comfortable. The knife fits snugly and securely in it; thanks to the metal clip, you can clip the Barlow knife to your belt or trouser pocket. Handmade in the Boker knife manufactory in Solingen.

The one with the tree. Böker in Solingen

Origin of the knife smithy Heinrich Böker in Solingen, founded in 1869, was the family's hand tool factory in Remscheid. On the opposite bank of the Wupper River, a large chestnut tree belonged to Böker's workshop as early as the 17th century. The old tree was struck by lightning one day, but as a trademark and seal of quality it has survived to this day and still adorns every knife that leaves the forge. Many production processes are similar to those of 100 years ago - only without steam engines and transmission belts. Some pocket knives from the early years of the forge are still being made, like the Böker knives in our range.
