Organic hay mulch

The benefits of mulching are not only well known to dedicated gardeners. The mulch layer protects the soil from water loss through evaporation. It also curbs weed growth and shields vegetables and fruits growing close to the ground from high splashes of rain or irrigation water and the resulting pollution, rot and fungal diseases.

Straight mulch layers of hay are also ideal for the delicate strawberries. During the natural decomposition process, the hay releases valuable nutrients - plants and soil (whose humus content and thus water-holding capacity is increased) thus benefit from the mulched area in the long term. At the same time, unlike straw, which is traditionally used, hay does not fix nitrogen, which additionally benefits the nutrient supply of the plants.

Thanks to the pellet form, which is also suitable for raised beds, mulching in strawberry, vegetable and flower beds is particularly quick, easy and uniform: the hay pellets are distributed under the plants and moistened so that they can swell to form the desired mulch layer. In the process, the hay not only spreads the wonderful scent of summer meadow - it was also mowed in an animal-friendly manner and is naturally free of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and growth inhibitors (with which straw is often treated and which can lead to growth depression even later in the garden). This is because this hay comes from meadows that are part of the Bavarian Contractual Nature Conservation Program (VNP). The declared aim of this program is to protect natural biodiversity by managing ecologically valuable habitats in a nature-friendly way and thus preserving and improving them.
