Plate Thuringian forest glass

This solid plate with a diameter of 33 centimeters is a representative base for the atmospheric arrangement of branches, flowers, leaves and all sorts of other decorative Objekten. The 1,200 °C hot glass mass is scooped out of the smelting furnace by hand with an iron ladle, poured into the mold and evenly distributed in it - a process that requires care and experience to achieve this smooth surface. The small streaks and air bubbles in the shimmering green forest glass indicate that it was handmade.

In the Farbglashütte Lauscha in the south of the Thuringian Forest, the original type of the famous Thuringian Forest Glass is blown and cast. The glass owes its characteristic green shimmer to the high proportion of iron oxides in the sands of the Thuringian Forest. This sand, potash and lime are used to melt the raw material for this highly prized glass specialty. Typical for the Thuringian Forest glass are also the so-called Gispen, air bubbles enclosed in the glass, which characterize the original manufacturing process before the smelting furnace, which has been handed down for centuries.

This product is an example of genuine handicraft; therefore, minor deviations in size and colour may occur.
