Tunnel arches for raised bed attachment

Simple but effective: with the help of these arches you can build a protective cover for your vegetable plants in the raised bed. Such a tunnel is useful throughout the garden year. You can use it just as well for early harvesting in the spring as for extending the season into the winter. The first lettuces, spinach, chard, all kinds of cabbage or carrots sown in late summer, for example, thrive under foil protected and warmer than in the open field. And as soon as the dreaded vegetable flies threaten to harm the greenery in the raised bed too much, simply replace the foil with a protective culture net. Our tip: During the warm and increasingly dry summer months, it may also be worthwhile to lay fleece instead of film or netting to protect the vegetable plants from drying out, sunburn and damage caused by heavy rain and hail.

To manufacture the arches, blanks cut from iron are cold-formed, their ends cleanly deburred and each provided with a screw hole. Finally, our supplier, a metalworking company based in Witten an der Ruhr, welds on two round retaining lugs per arch. In their dimensions, these iron arches are matched to the dimensions of raised beds and bed borders made of pallet frames. You can get by with the supplied three arches per bedding box. All you need in addition are a) suitable wood screws for fastening, b) hazelnut sticks, wooden slats or similar in the appropriate thickness and length, which you lead through the mentioned eyelets to additionally stabilize the construction, and c) cover gauze, fleece or a piece of foil to complete the tunnel.
