    General Information

Supple and Durable. The Foxtail Chain.

The Pforzheim jewellery manufacturer Guthmann uses one of the oldest chain types, the foxtail chain, to produce this bracelet. The type goes back to Babylonian times when the chains were made of fine gold. With many other chain types the links are comprised of individually wound eyelets strung together and then soldered; with the foxtail chain technique the small wound rings are first soldered together, shaped into loops and then woven into a chain. The result is both durable and supple. The chain of this Guthmann bracelet is twisted in a final step, creating a subtle dynamic appearance. With the aid of a ball clasp, the length of the bracelet can be varied. We offer a matching necklace (Article Nr. 23419). The traditional Hessian firm of Friedrich Roediger supplies Guthmann with these foxtail chains. Founded in 1886 as a jewel working factory, the firm became the court purveyor for a number of European princely and aristocratic houses. Later the firm developed into a pioneer for the fully automated machine production of foxtail chains. The basic framework of the machine which produces the twisted foxtail chain is over 100 years old.

    Jewellery from Pforzheim. Martin Guthmann.

Making high-quality jewellery that’s affordable for more people was the idea the goldsmith Martin Guthmann had in 1906 for his jewellery manufacturing business. The business is run today in the fourth generation by his great grandson, with all production still located in the jewellery and gold centre of Pforzheim. Milled, stamped, drawn and cast parts in the factory are assembled by hand in smaller series. The designs include among other things old jewellery shapes and ornaments from the company’s archive which are recast and assembled with updated traditional manufacturing techniques.

    Jewelry from Pforzheim. Martin Guthmann

Making high-quality crafted jewelry affordable for as many people as possible - with this in mind, goldsmith Martin Guthmann founded his jewelry manufactory in 1906. Today, run by his great-grandson in the fourth generation, the family business still produces entirely in the jewelry and gold city of Pforzheim. In the manufactory, rolled, stamped, drawn and cast parts are assembled by hand into small series. Among other things, old jewelry forms and ornaments from the company's own history are incorporated into the design: they are cast and - using historical manufacturing techniques - transferred to our time.
