Adjustable Table E 1027

General Information
Clear forms, functional structure
It is one of the best-known and most frequently copied pieces of furniture in the history of design: the Adjustable Table E 1027 by Eileen Gray (1878-1976). Like many of her designs, the Irish designer and architect also constructed this side table initially for her own use. The variable as well as variably usable table was originally intended for breakfast in bed. In keeping with this demand for functionality, the table can be slid under almost any bed thanks to the one-sided support and the openly designed support arch, which makes overly expansive movements by the user superfluous - be it when reaching for the coffee cup and croissant in the morning or when searching for the wine glass or the remote control in the evening. By means of a pin attached to a chain, the glass top can be locked at different heights and the entire table can be gripped and moved by the tubular steel frame above the glass top - as if by a handle.
Eileen Gray. Virtuoso of the 1920s
If she was one of the first to design furniture made of tubular steel in the 1920s, Eileen Gray's designs are classics today - the Adjustable Table E 1027 is considered one of her most important works. Meanwhile, she is one of the most influential designers of the early 20th century. In the 1970s, Eileen Gray worked on the series production of her furniture and lighting designs together with the British furniture designer Zeev Aram, to whom she also gave the worldwide rights for the production and distribution of her works. Today, as the world's only licensee of Aram Designs Ltd, Munich-based ClassiCon produces the Eileen Gray collection, including the Adjustable Table E 1027.
True to the original. And high quality workmanship
In line with the popularity of the filigree side table, a large number of plagiarisms can be found on the market, which differ from the original mainly in terms of their material and workmanship quality. Thus, the "real" Adjustable Table 1027 from ClassiCon offered here weighs 7.5 kg. This high weight is explained by the choice of steel as well as its thickness, which, by the way, is also decisive for the stability of the table. The cold-rolled steel used also allows for a visibly high-quality surface treatment. In addition, the steel tubes are joined by means of TIG welding, which is characterized by precision and stability. To guarantee a suitable base for the galvanic surface treatment or powder coating on the black model, the frames are ground and polished throughout. Also, the original Adjustable Table 1027 bears a transparent sticker on the glass top as well as embossing in the frame: In addition to the manufacturer's name and the table's serial number, the lettering of the license holder and Eileen Gray's signature can also be found here.
