These glasses come from Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the Upper Palatinate. The more filigree the glass, the longer the beer stays fresh, and beer that has just been tapped, won’t settle so fast. Why? If a cool drink is poured into a piece of glassware, which has room temperature, it cools down the glass. If the glass is especially thin, the beer is surrounded by a relatively small mass of glass to the effect, that the cool of the beer trickles off that much slower and the beer stays fresh longer. This is why these glasses are made with such thin walls.
