Gotland Sheep Carpet Sample.
Swedish Gotland sheep are hornless, Swedish wool bearing sheep which are also found in Germany in smaller numbers. They have an impressively long-growing, rather thick, curly wool fleece, varying in color from silver to blue-gray to an almost black. The wool is rugged and firm. We have the new wool for our carpets and runners woven by hand weavers in Hesse in their natural colors.
White Polled Heath Carpet Sample.
One of the last great white polled heath herds in Germany are kept for habitat management in the Diepholz upland moors near Bremen, an area encompassing approx. 125.000 hectares of lowland moors. The typically especially light wool of the primitive breed with its coarse outer wool and extremely fine underwool makes it the ideal raw material for durable woolen goods with a long life like carpets. And, thanks to the protected habitat of the sheep, the wool is free from treatment and pest control agents.
Fox Sheep Carpet Sample.
We have these carpets woven by hand from the light brown wool of the Coburg fox sheep in north Hesse. The washed wool is combed without any additional equipment and spun to a finger thick "Lunte" (fuse) consisting of 15 twined threads (Nm 5/2) which are twisted into a "Seele" (soul) of pure linen. The fuse is mechanically tumbled, and felted and then woven into an extremely durable lint free carpet with an impressive material weight of 2.6 kg/m².
Woven carpets and runners made of sheep's wool
From pure new wool from respectively different breeds of sheep - the Gotland sheep, the Moorschnucke and the Coburger Fuchsschaf - a Hessian hand weaving manufactures woven carpets and runners. The carpets are decidedly serviceable: abrasion-resistant, lint-free and dirt-repellent - very easy to care for, in other words - and they can be used on both sides, the manufacturer even recommends turning them occasionally.
Sheep's wool is naturally durable and comes without further equipment during processing. The raw wool, which is merely washed, is combed, spun and then processed into a finger-thick "fuse" by twisting 15 twisted threads of yarn size Nm 5/2 onto a "core" of pure linen. The slubbing is mechanically rolled, felted and then woven into an extremely durable carpet with a considerable material weight of 2.8 kg/sqm. We have the wool processed into these carpets in undyed natural tones.
