Carpet Woven From Fox Sheep Wool

We have these carpets woven by hand in north Hesse from the light brown wool of the Coburg fox sheep. The washed wool is combed without any additional equipment and spun to finger thick strands consisting of 15 twined threads (Nm 5/2) which are twisted into a supporting yarn made of pure linen. The strands are mechanically tumbled and felted and then woven into an extremely durable carpet with an impressive material weight of 2.6 kg/m². We have the wool processed in undyed natural tones. You’ll find a yarn made of 70% new wool from the Coburg fox sheep and 30% linen (invisible in the core) in the weft and pure linen yarn in the warp. The handwoven carpets made from pure virgin wool are exceedingly functional: abrasion resistant, lint-free because of the tumbling and felting and water and dirt repellent, which makes them easy to maintain. They’re also usable on both sides, and it’s in fact recommended to turn them over now and again.
