For the Romantic composers like Nössler, Reger, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy or Bruch the Christmas songs from the past, from the Renaissance and Baroque periods or those handed down from popular tradition, were a matter of the heart. They took the inspiration stemming from these songs as an artistic challenge. In addition, the 19th century was a time of choral music revival. This artistically multi-faceted piece is a reference work recorded in 2002 in the Jesus-Christus-Kirche in Berlin with the RIAS Chamber Choir under the direction of Uwe Gronostay.
