An armchair poured from a mold.
It takes a lot of experience to build a graceful armchair like this one: it takes the considerable craftsmanship of a Danish cabinet maker. Take the technically advanced shaping of the armrest. There is a quiet joy in the craftsmanship that pervades to the level of half-hidden detail. The high-quality classical construction of the frame does without screws and the connection between the armrest and the seat frame looks as if wood had melted into wood. The wickerwork for the suspension of the seat made of real rattan is caned in Denmark. The seat and back are upholstered with duck down and polyethylene flakes and then covered with fullgrain aniline leather.
Danish craftsmanship. Made by the same firm since 1949.
The symbiosis of ease and solidity is a characteristic for Scandinavian furniture. This chair is a perfect example. The Danish architect and furniture designer Ole Wanscher (1903–1985), who was known for his unerring sense for proportion, designed the ”Colonial Chair“ in 1949. The armchairs are still manufactured in the same joinery as the first edition.
