Leather is one of the oldest natural products used by man. Despite the numerous alternatives, it is still one of the most versatile and beautiful materials. Hardly any other shows the symbiosis between it and its user like leather. It takes on an individual patina over time and, as a piece of clothing, also adapts to its wearer in terms of shape. Products made of leather accompany us for many, many years, whether as shoes, jackets and bags, motorcycle clothing, covers for car seats and sofas, or horse saddles. The big book of leather care answers the question of how to properly care for leather, and many more (for example, why leather shines). By way of introduction, it gives an overview of the various tanning processes and the different types of leather, which can be typified according to origin, type of dyeing and surface texture. One focus is on shoe care, not only because Axel Himer can contribute his experience from over 35 years as a custom shoemaker, but also because leather most often accompanies us through everyday life as shoes. It is extremely helpful here that individual care steps are shown using very different shoes.
But the same applies to all other leather products: they last longer if they are cared for "properly". It is important to use the right product for each type of leather, because incorrect care or the wrong care products can also damage the leather.
