    General Information

For friends of the cultivated restrained perfumery.

Paul Divjak, a philosopher and writer, calls himself a fragrance poet, and rightly so, because describing fragrances in such a way that even laymen get a clear idea of the aroma compositions is one of those difficult undertakings that few succeed in. Divjak can do it, and he does it so well that even those who are not necessarily perfume enthusiasts get stuck into his book "The Perfumed Man" (we know this from in-house tests). In it, he devotes himself not only to beautiful fragrances in general, but specifically to the history of men's perfumes.
After an introductory cultural history of men's perfume, Divjak gives us an overview of the best men's fragrances from the 19th century to the present day. The stylistically confident selection includes classics as well as some exotics and those that are (unfortunately) no longer available, and often includes his personal assessment of the fragrance, which is positive ("It seems unchanged coherent. And that's good. - Highly classic"), but can also be scathing ("Strict synthetic sweetness, which immediately excites nausea and triggers spontaneous flight reflexes").
On the basis of five perfumes, Paul Divjak shows what makes a good, a well-composed fragrance or simply a "beautiful perfume". He tells us how to describe the emblematic and ephemeral nature of fragrances, and explores the question of whether and how perfumes have changed with role models through the decades. Of course, you'll also find plenty of tips ("Matches the three-piece perfectly") and perfume recommendations in this entertaining booklet to help you find your way through the "confusing spray." Because one thing is certain: it is an art to smell good!
