    General Information

Shell Cordovan Horse Leather: for shoes, the best in the world.

Its form makes this a shoe fit to wear everyday: it’s mid-high, offering stable support to the foot, and the more robust double-stitched design with molded rubber outsole offers greater load capacity and durability. Very rare and anything but ordinary, however, is the leather from which this shoe is made: Shell Cordovan, the famous leather derived from very specific small areas of the hide (namely, only the croup) of a special breed of draft horses. Dinkelacker acquires it from the Horween tannery in Chicago, a firm that has specialized in horse leather since 1905 and one of only a handful remaining in the world. Both the softness and suppleness of the leather is due to the high fat content – if you give it a little time to wear in, the shoe will soon fit like a glove. It’s hand-dyed and has a fine shimmer that comes from the buffing process (done with a glass drum). Exclusive to Manufactum.

Handcraft from Budapest. Heinrich Dinkelacker .

Shoes from the workshop of Heinrich Dinkelacker have been made in Budapest since the 1960s and prior to that from 1879 in Sindelfingen in southern Germany. What makes these shoes outstanding is their fit, but above all their exceptional craftsmanship. Each Dinkelacker shoe requires 300 different procedures. After the prototype has been made, the patterns are cut; and after a very careful selection the leather that makes up the shaft for the uppers is cut. This leather is then steamed and the shaft is stretched over the wooden shoe lasts, nailed and the following day re-pinched. After a week the leather is taken from the last – machine-made shoes usually only stay on the last for 30 minutes! – This guarantees that the shoe maintains its form and fit for many years to come.
The insole is crafted by hand to the shape of the last, uppers, lining and welts are then sewn to it – there is no better connection.

    Please note:

this high-laced ankle boot has been cut on a relatively slim last. For this reason, please order a close fit – horse leather ‘gives’ with time.

What makes these shoes outstanding is their fit, accomplished by means of exceptional craftsmanship. Each Dinkelacker shoe requires 300 different procedures. At first, stencils are made that correspond to the model design. After careful examination and selection of the upper leather, the templates for cutting the shaft parts are applied to the leather, and the cut is executed. This leather is then steamed and the shaft is stretched over the wooden shoe lasts, nailed and the following day re-pinched.
