Outdated but Useful. A Lunch Box to Go.
These enamelled lunch boxes were often to be seen in German break rooms, with their tightly fitting lids and a clip lock and handle. The lunch box carriers, known as "Henkelmann", were very popular until the 1960s, but are rarely used in Germany today. However, in South Asia so-called tiffin carriers are widely in use for delivering lunch. Usually, the carriers come in two or three tiered versions. With our "Henkelmann" two piggyback vessels are carried together so that a warm meal and a salad can be provided separately for lunch. At home, the enamelled vessels make themselves useful for storage, in the fridge or elsewhere in the kitchen. They tolerate the warmth of a (conventional) oven and moderate heat from the hob for rewarming food. The enamel coating of the steel is very durable: it won't discolour; it is resistant to corrosion and scratches; it is easy to clean and is neutral in odour and taste.
Real Enamel. Lunch Boxes by Riess.
They completely replace the usual plastic bowls and containers. These enamel lunch boxes come in various shapes and sizes, yet have a tightly closing lid and clip locks with handles. You can store food in them (both inside and outside the refrigerator) or use them to take your lunch with you.
The enamelled tins can are well adapted for oven heat (of a conventional oven), and they can even be used to warm up food on a hob when set at low temperature. Either way, remove the lid when warming the food up. An additional advantage of enamelware is that it is easy to clean, scratch-resistant, and tasteless and odourless.
