Getting Comfortable on the Sofa.
As a bolster or cuddle pillow it will make itself indispensable because unlike the usual commercially available sofa pillows it is not merely filled with feathers. Instead, it features a combination of Class I new white feathers and down from Bavarian geese (free-range farming), with 85% feathers and 15% down. (A pillow entirely made of down would be useless: the filigree structure of the down billows incredibly but has no support, and a tired head sinks right through the pillow without stopping.)
Down and feathers from Bavarian free-range geese
Good goose down is rare: in the plumage of a goose, only about 25 to 40 grams of down can be found, and between about 500 and 1,000 grams are needed for a bedspread alone. Some breeders therefore try to increase the small yield by plucking the animals several times and thus inflicting indescribable pain on them. It is therefore essential to take a close look at the origin of the down and feathers as well as the conditions under which the geese are raised and plucked. The animals must live in species-appropriate husbandry - and since painless plucking is not possible, this must take place after slaughter.
In Bavaria, we have found a farm that excludes live plucking and molting. The feathers and down for the pillows and comforters in our range come from this farm. The family-run poultry farm breeds primarily for meat production. The geese there are fed with grain that the farm grows itself and to which it adds neither growth promoters or hormones nor antibiotics or other medications. And finally, a slaughterhouse is also part of the farm, which eliminates long transport routes for the animals. Only after slaughter, the animals are plucked and the resulting down and feathers are further processed.
