These fine liner rollerballs come from Ohto, a Tokyo manufacturer. Ohto has been producing writing instruments since 1929. Unlike ballpoint pens, they write with thin-bodied, conventional ink. What is special about these ones is that their writing tip is a porous ceramic ball. Seen under the microscope, its pocked surface reminds us of that of the Moon. Remarkably, it acts as a flow control mechanism, gives an extremely uniform ink flow, and ensures a clear and even image of the handwritten letters. The ceramic ball is far superior to its counterpart in smooth steel. Thanks to the fine even strokes (with a line thickness of 0.5 mm), the pens are particularly suitable for writing in calendars, spreadsheets and notebooks, as well as for annotating printed matter.
In contrast to its predecessor, this model not only has the colour on the cap, but also on the shaft end of the barrel which is now made from steel sheet.
