Fitted Sheets Made of Linen
Pithy to the touch. Colorful in the yarn.
Hoffmann uses only linen yarns of European provenance, as this is the only way to guarantee the quality and outstanding properties of linen. European long fiber flax is also processed for these fitted sheets. The colorful yarns are dyed before weaving - a process that is more time-consuming and expensive than printing the fabrics, but which makes the colors more intense and light-resistant. The fabric is somewhat stronger and has a pithy feel. It matches our striped linen bedding.
Bedding. Made of pure linen.
Before cotton came to Europe, bed linen was mostly made of linen. This had good reasons: It is naturally antistatic and does not attract dust. Due to its smooth surface, it is kind to the skin and easy to clean. Linen can conduct heat well and absorb a lot of moisture without feeling damp. Since it also quickly wicks away the moisture, it is perceived as pleasantly cooling, which is why we recommend linen bedding especially for summer.
Terminus technicus: yarn count or yarn thickness.
The yarn count is a textile unit of length, we specify it in Nm (number metric), where the higher the number, the finer the yarn. A yarn unit of Nm 100 means that 100 meters of a yarn weigh 1 gram. An additional digit is added if the yarn is twisted from several single yarns, for example Nm 100/3 for a yarn made from three single yarns.
Another designation is also the yarn number, other measurements are tex, dtex or denier (den). Denier is a textile unit of weight that is now only found in fine pantyhose. It indicates how much 9,000 meters of a yarn weigh: At 15 den, 9,000 meters of the yarn in question weigh 15 grams. Far more common is now the international Tex system, in which the weight for 1,000 meters of a yarn is given in each case.
Upper Lusatia is one of the European textile regions where linen weaving is traditionally at home. The Leinenweberei Hoffmann - as one of few companies - has maintained its position there until today, which it owes to the grown and cultivated wealth of experience as well as the comparatively early specialization in jacquard weaving and embroidery. With nationalization in the 1970s, individuality and the production of pure linen declined visibly. It was not until reprivatization in 1994 that the company was able to resume work on the old looms, thus continuing and building on the tradition of Upper Lusatian linen. Since 1905, the company has been weaving and making up linen at its headquarters in Neukirch, Lusatia.
