Fruit and Vegetables Saved by Dörrwerk.
In the Marienpark, on the former gasworks site in the south of Berlin, the manufactury Dörrwerk started its activities by the end of 2015. The task Dörrwerk’s owner Zubin Farahani has set himself is producing enjoyable, natural snacks based on the high number of fruits and vegetables that are otherwise destroyed as unsaleable due to visual defects. In Farahani opinion, every fruit is beautiful. Accordingly, he buys up fruit and vegetables with minor “defects” – directly from farmers or wholesalers at fair prices. The following time-consuming, manual processing dispenses with all additives. Dörrwerk’s medium-term objective is to save as much fruit and vegetables that the quantity generates an impact on the market and raises awareness of the issue. Regarding their culinary value, the products deserve this attention anyway.
