Fruit tree pruning in pictures

General Information
Handout for practice.
A useful brochure from the fruit and horticultural publishing house. In it, the basics of pruning fruit trees are explained step by step and illustrated with drawings: from basic knowledge and terminology to the right tools and pruning and grafting techniques on pome, stone and soft fruit.
Reading sample: monitoring pruning
At about the sixth year of standing, the basic structure of the crown should be completed for free-standing bushes and half or even high trunks. Monitoring pruning can now begin. First, remove the fruiting wood that is more than three years old and hangs heavily downward. As can be seen in Fig. 29, the fruiting branches are cut back to upward or obliquely outward standing tabs. In the upper part of the crown, remove all shoots that are too dense. After pruning, the tree crown must be loose and light. The leading branch extensions are no longer shortened. From this time then also no more competition shoots arise.
