McKernan Baby Alpaca Knit Scarf
Irish Craftsmanship. McKernan.
Behind the walls of McKernan Woollen Mills in Tuamgraney, County Clare, Anke and Eugene McKernan have been producing fine woven and knitted scarves made of hand-picked natural fibres since 1985, and are currently supported by a team of five experts. They attach importance to combining the past with the present. For example, their fabrics are woven on old Hattersley looms, real classics among mechanical looms, which have not been produced for years and are therefore maintained with the utmost care. The same applies to a 50-year-old Stoll knitting machine which is supported by the McKernan's most recent purchase, two computerised machines. So much for the technical details. What makes their products truly unique, however, is the McKernan's profound understanding of the materials, colours and patterns produced by pure hand weaving – and the enthusiasm with which the family business approaches its work.
