Monk’s Work Smock
Monastery Work Clothing.
The monks in Königsmünster Abbey in Meschede in North Rhine-Westphalia wear a special work smock uniform. We thought, that would be interesting for non-monks, too. Since the monastery tailor shop was too small, we had to outsource the smocks. We found a shop in Datteln, next to Waltrop.
The smock, which is utterly simple and sturdily produced, is pulled on like a sweater and depending on your height, will extend to the hips. It has no buttons, so nothing protrudes or tears off or gets caught on something while you are working. The firm twill weave of the cotton cloth has a fabric weight of 220 g/m² and is woven in Germany in warp thread quality just for this item of clothing. It will shield the upper body from the cold, injury and dirt. It will not confine movement and always keeps its shape. The sleeves are wide, so the smock is airy, and they have an average length which can be shortened or extended by letting down the large-scale fringe according to need. Two attached, quite roomy pockets with an opening of 17 cm comfortably accommodate tools or other objects. These pockets are cut with a profound depth precluding things from falling out. The smock with its quiescent, simple form will reliably serve for years in house and garden, in the workshop or the open field.

Since it is a loose fit, you should consider how much clothing you want to wear underneath the smock.
