Nature quartet butterflies

Who knew? With about 160,000 species, 46 superfamilies, and 130 families, butterflies (Lepidoptera) form the most species-rich insect order after beetles (Coleoptera). With their distinct variety of colors and shapes, they are among the most fascinating insects on earth. But this diversity is threatened. Of the 3,700 butterfly species native to Germany alone, many are on the Red List, and only a small proportion can even be observed in our gardens. The scale butterflies are suffering from the loss of their natural habitats, which is being further accelerated by agricultural monocultures and climate change. This makes this quartet, whose 32 brilliantly photographed playing cards introduce us to the fascination of butterflies, all the more valuable. With noble butterflies, white butterflies, blue butterflies, owls, peepers, knight butterflies, hawkmoths, and caterpillars, points can be scored all the way to victory - and who knows? Maybe (hopefully) the butterflies win in the end, as we get to know the animals and their needs better and can take better care of them on our own doorstep.
