    General Information

Yūzen papers have colourful, often gold-embossed designs. They are named after Miyazaki Yūzen (1654–1736), a fan painter of the Edo period, who is considered the first great master in the art of origami.

    Origami. Expression of creative power

More than 2,000 years ago, paper was invented in China. From there, monks brought it to Japan in the 7th century. Whether they brought with them the art of paper folding is unclear, but it is undisputed that the Japanese are the only ones who refined paper folding into a sophisticated art form - origami (from the Japanese oru = fold and kami = paper). The starting point is always a square sheet of paper, which is folded into two- or three-dimensional Objekten without any aids. (When it is unfolded again, it must not have any glue spots or cuts). There are a number of different folding techniques, such as the mountain fold, valley fold, pinch fold, zig-zag fold, or petal fold. There are almost no limits to the imagination when it comes to the shapes and Objekten that can be reproduced. It starts with the classic basic forms that have been handed down for centuries - water balloons, birds, frogs and windmills - which do not resemble their models in every detail, but can manage with 10 to 30 folding steps, and ends with complex, detailed Objekten, which reproduce their models as closely as possible and require up to 300 folding maneuvers to do so. Meanwhile one recognized also in this country the at the same time concentration-promoting and relaxing effect of the Origami. Above all, because it is simply fun, when folding the objects not only playfully to promote the creative, artistic skills, but also to train the mathematical understanding and spatial imagination. For the self-experiment we offer you two different papers with classic patterns, which of course come from Japan.
