Additional Information

A classic from the cockpit. Bomber jacket made of lambskin.

During the first decades of aviation, harsh conditions prevailed in the cockpit. The pilots countered them with the appropriate protective clothing. Up into the 1920s in winter, this was mainly done with leather raincoats that were lined with fur. After that, waist-length leather jackets prevailed, granting more freedom of movement, but leather jackets with lambskin collar and lambskin jackets proved to be particularly suitable. The Army Navy Jacket from 1943 that became known as the ANJ-4 was the last bomber jacket made of lambskin in the United States. It marks at the same time the pinnacle of continuous improvement of this occupational clothing through testing and over many years of daily use. The ANJ-4 had reinforcements made of horsehide on all heavily stressed parts and, thanks to its cut and material, was more comfortable to wear than its heavier predecessor, which immediately made it a favorite among flight crews. The elaborate construction, however, proved to be quite expensive, so the production was discontinued a year later. This, and the fact that the specimens obtained after the Second World War became very popular in civilian use, have made the original jackets hard to find today. The Pike Brothers company has relaunched the jacket, copying the historical model in detail. The lambskin is clipped to a length of 16 mm and almost the entire upper sleeves and seams are trimmed with horsehide. The jacket is completely manufactured in Germany.
