General Information

Linen Made in Lusatia.

Upper Lusatia is today part of the German state of Saxony, except for a small part east of the Neisse River around Luban, which now belongs to the Polish Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The region is characterised by fertile soil, gently rolling hills and historic towns like Bautzen, Görlitz, Herrnhut, and Bad Muskau. The development of the linen industry in the 17th century helped the region to prosperity. The linen weaving mill Hoffmann in Neukirch in the rural district of Bautzen as one of a very few is still active there today. With its wealth of experience and expertise, the firm has specialised in jacquard weaving and stitching. With lots of commitment, the current owners started the reprivatisation after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Old weaving machines were put into operation to tie in with tradition, and the story of the Lausitz weaving continues.

Bed Linen. Made of Pure Linen.

Before cotton arrived in Europe, bed linen was usually made of linen, as the name suggests. There were good reasons for this. Linen is antistatic by nature and tends not to attract dust. Thanks to its smooth texture, it feels comfortable against the skin and is easy to wash. Linen is a good conductor of heat and absorbs moisture without actually feeling damp. Because it rereleases the moisture quickly after that, linen is considered to be pleasantly cooling.

Crisp texture. Colourful yarn.

Hoffmann uses only linen yarns of European provenance so as to guarantee the quality and outstanding properties of linen: these sheets are made of European long fibre flax. The coloured yarns are dyed before weaving – a technique that is more complex and costly than fabric printing but one that guarantees greater colour intensity and fastness to light. The durable fabric has a somewhat crisp texture.
