Reversible underblanket silk wool

General Information
A reversible underblanket. Silk in summer, virgin wool in winter
This bed pad is a real reversible underblanket, because here not only the cover of the two sides differs, but also their filling. One side is made of wild silk fleece and a fine cotton percale, the other side is lined with virgin wool from certified organic livestock and covered with soft cotton jersey. Thanks to its crimped structure, the virgin wool is warming and at the same time able to absorb and wick away excess moisture, creating a warm, dry sleeping climate - perfect for winter or cool nights in the warm season.
Wild silk is very light and airy, it can absorb moisture even better and even more without feeling damp due to its fiber structure, and transports it away again quickly, creating a cooling effect. This effect is supported by the smooth, fine percale cover. The breathability and absorbency of wild silk thus ensures a pleasantly dry and balanced sleeping climate - ideal in summer.
If you live in a region with large temperature fluctuations or are looking for a bed pad that you can use all year round, you are well advised with this reversible underblanket. The natural moisture and temperature-regulating properties of the two natural materials complement each other perfectly, so that you always have the right carpet pad ready, depending on the season or your need for warmth.
And so that you can sleep even more relaxed, the jersey or percale covers are made of cotton, which is certified according to the International Association of the Natural Textile Industry e.V. (IVN) and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
Ahimsa wild silk - for the benefit of the silk moth
The silk processed in the reversible underblanket is Ahimsa wild silk - it is obtained without animal suffering (the Indian "ahimsa" means "do not hurt"). Thus, the silk moth butterflies are allowed to hatch before their cocoons are collected and the silk threads are unwound. The threads are then shorter, but this does not matter for bedding - the climate-regulating properties of silk are retained in any case. There is one downside to the animal-friendly breeding of Ahimsa silk for us consumers: The cocoons are opened when the butterfly hatches, the uncoiled silk thread is therefore shorter than in farmed silk, where the threads are uncoiled before hatching and thus remain long. The extraction and processing of the shorter silk thread is more complex, therefore Ahimsa wild silk is more expensive than conventionally extracted silk. Prolana uses only goldbraune wild silk, which is particularly suitable as a filling for bedding thanks to its high bulking power.
