Staunton Chess Pieces
The world's finest chess pieces.
Amritsar in India is home not only to the most but also to the finest chess pieces in the world. The craftsmanship of the local craftsmen is most evident in the design of the knight, the only piece in the set models on Staunton's design which is carved by hand from head to toe, and which are therefore always slightly different. The design of these pieces dates back to a chess set designed in the mid-19th century named after the English chess player and pioneer Howard Staunton. It advanced to become the tournament standard because each piece was clearly defined (apart from being aesthetically pleasing), and numerous variations on this design are to be had. Our grand chess set is undeniably one of the most virtuous implementations of the original design.
