Summer blanket wild silk

A real treasure on warm nights is this airy summer blanket. Its filling of wild silk is on the one hand particularly light and airy. On the other hand, thanks to its fiber structure, the natural material is characterized by the ability to absorb a lot of moisture without feeling damp. At the same time, silk also quickly releases the moisture again and is thus perceived as cooling. Due to its natural breathability and absorbency, the wild silk comforter ensures a pleasant and balanced sleeping climate, especially in summer.
The skin-friendly silk comforter is ideal for people who have a low heat requirement or prefer a light comforter in summer. A fine, light (460 g/sqm) and tightly woven percale made of organic cotton is used for the filling. Thanks to the comfort quilting, the blanket perfectly adapts to your body and movements. The wild silk summer blanket brings another special feature: The silk used is Ahimsa wild silk - it is obtained without animal suffering. This indicates the Indian word "ahimsa", which means "do not harm". In this special form of breeding, the silk moth butterflies are allowed to hatch before their cocoons are collected and the silk threads unwound. The threads are then shorter, but this does not matter for blanket fillings anyway - the climate-regulating properties of the silk are retained in any case.
The animal-friendly breeding of Ahimsa silk has one downer for us consumers: The cocoons are opened when the butterfly hatches and the uncoiled silk thread is therefore shorter than in farmed silk, where the threads are uncoiled before hatching and thus remain long. The extraction and processing of the shorter silk thread is more complex, so Ahimsa wild silk is more expensive than conventionally obtained silk.
Prolana uses only goldbraune wild silk, which is particularly suitable for filling blankets thanks to its high bulking power. The silk is first processed into an airy fleece and then quilted with the single layer of cotton, which is certified according to the International Association of the Natural Textile Industry (IVN) and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
