Ton Bentwood Armchair
Article Number 43801
Michael Thonet (1796–1871) can be considered one of the most successful furniture manufacturers in the Industrial Age and a pioneer of industrial design. The bentwood technique he perfected made it possible to bend wood by applying steam and diluted glue, thereby lifting the manufacture of furniture to a new industrial level. These chairs come from the former Thonet plant in the Czech Republic. They are manufactured in part with old tools. Stretch marks caused by production are the tell-tale traces of the old technique.
