Travel garment bag canvas

Canvas tarp is usually made into tents for the Swiss Army, and this use of the sturdy material is no less appropriate: durable garment bags. We have the heavy, hardwearing half-linen fabric processed in an especially dense, twoply basket weave at a mill specializing in technical cloths in Hesse. It has a robust feel and is even water-repellent (to an extent), because the linen thread (in the weft) swells when wet and slightly compresses the weave.

A sturdy leather strap fitted under the top handle can be used to hang clothes hangers from – even those with a rigid hook, because the flap is secured by means of a bookbinder screw and can be flexibly rotated in all directions. The garment bag can also be folded in half for easier carrying; a second handle on the bottom has been attached for this purpose. The leather handles and clothes hanger strap are made from (4 mm thick) vegetable-tanned harness leather and secured with rivets. Includes a spacious zipper pocket on the front.

The man behind Hack Lederware is Christoph Hack, founder and fine bag-maker, who runs his own studio in Cologne. For over 30 years, he has been making hard-wearing, functional garments and simple accessories out of natural leathers from Germany, Italy and Scandinavia and robust canvas. The vegetable-tanned, aniline-dyed leather is processed without an additional finish, irregularities are not concealed by dyes, leaving the surface open-pored and the structure clearly visible. Production takes place at the Hack workshop in Cologne or on the premises of a partner company in Poland.
