Vacuum packaging of fresh foods and frozen products is carried out as a matter of course in professional processing. It is also recommended for preserving fruits and vegetables grown in the garden as it is at least as beneficial for the taste quality as it is for shelf life. Vacuum-packed vegetables stored in the fridge at a temperature of +5 °C can be kept fresh for approximately 9 days and when frozen at -18 °C for as long as 24 months instead of ten.
This household appliance is produced by Tre Spade - a traditional company based in Turin, Italy, which originally started out as a manufacturer of hand-operated coffee grinders. The powerful pump (800 mbar) sucks 16 liters of air per minute. Even the smallest of food items such as berries can be vacuum-packed without any trapped air being left inside. As soon as the air has been extracted the products are sealed without having to take the bag off the appliance.
An ideal way to preserve products and enjoy them out of season.
With the assistance of the small valve made of rubber with a steel tip, the shelf life of pickled foods, or foods preserved by boiling, can be extended after a jar has been opened.
And this is how it works:
Press the valve applicator of one of the valves into the screw top of the jar (must be made of white sheet steel) and, with the vacuum sealer switched on, use the suction extension to extract the air from the jar – this creates a vacuum in the container. The small valves are always reusable.
