Swiss Innovation. Light Terry Towelling Fabric with High Absorbency.
Terry towelling is a loop pile fabric consisting of a three-thread system. The warp and the weft form the backing; the third thread forms the loop. Because of the loop warp, terry towelling is much more voluminous and absorbent than two-thread – warp and weft – terry with an effect yarn bringing about the loops. In three-thread terry towelling, the threads are usually equally thick.
The Swiss weaving company Weseta has taken a new direction here, keeping the ground warp and weft backing relatively light with a fine yarn but using a heavier yarn than usual for the loop. This produces a more medium-weight towelling cloth but one that is as absorbent as heavier towelling. And in contrast to thicker cloths, it dries more quickly.
The following products are made of this voluminous, yet relatively light fluffy towelling. The cotton is GOTS-certified and comes from small farms in Tanzania, where it is spun and sold under fair trade conditions. The cotton yarns are processed at all stages of production by Weseta in the Glarus Alps; only dyeing takes place externally at a dyeing workshop also based in Switzerland.
