In addition to the version with the pure anise flavor, Flavigny pastilles are also available finely flavored. HIer they come in a very classic version, which picks up the pleasant taste of candied violets known from the upscale dessert cuisine and patisserie. The anise seed in the core is of course also included here.

Legend has it that it was none other than Julius Caesar who once brought aniseed sweets to France. And centuries later, Pope John VIII is said to have enjoyed them after consecrating the Flavigny Abbey. In any case, the records show that the monks in Flavigny produced the small, egg-shaped sweets since at least 1591. The monastery is no longer inhabited today; however, Troubat, a candy-making firm, continues to manufacture the sweets locally nearby and according to the old recipes. Each sweet contains one aniseed encased in an anise-flavoured sugar coating.
