The ladybug is not only a popular helper in the garden, it is also considered a lucky charm in many cultures - an effect it is said to have especially when it unexpectedly chooses us as its landing place. Guthmann gives such luck a helping hand with this ladybird-shaped pendant. The full-size beetle made of pure, oxidized silver is designed to be as lifelike as possible: with antennae, legs, ribs and slightly open wing covers. State-of-the-art CAD technology has helped to achieve this. The strikingly shiny red wing covers with the symbolic seven dots, on the other hand, are traditional craftsmanship: they are fire-enameled. This elaborate and rare craft requires a sure instinct, especially in this case. The temperature in the kiln (up to 850 °C) may only lie within the narrow range between the melting point of the enamel and that of the silver. The beetles emerge from the kiln red-hot before they cool down and are then carefully polished.

Making high-quality crafted jewelry affordable for as many people as possible - with this in mind, goldsmith Martin Guthmann founded his jewelry manufactory in 1906. Today, run by his great-grandson in the fourth generation, the family business still produces entirely in the jewelry and gold city of Pforzheim. In the manufactory, rolled, stamped, drawn and cast parts are assembled by hand into small series. Among other things, old jewelry forms and ornaments from the company's own history are incorporated into the design: they are cast and - using historical manufacturing techniques - transferred to our time.
