For this curtain, the linen fabric is pre-washed before it is made up. This has two advantages: Firstly, the fabric shrinks only minimally (4%) the first time it is washed at home. Secondly - and this is the most important aspect - the curtain has a beautiful soft drape and no longer shows any of the initial stiffness that is typical of linen fabric. With a material weight of 253 g/sqm, the plain weave is not completely opaque, but it keeps the sun and prying eyes out and conveys a light and airy coziness. This is also ensured by the melange shade, as the fabric is woven in two colors: with natural-colored yarn in the warp and with gray-brown or beige-colored yarn in the weft. As usual, Vieböck uses the best long-fiber flax of European provenance. The linen yarns are somewhat more robust with a yarn count of Nm 16 and 13 and show the natural thickening of the material, which ensures a lively yet unagitated fabric structure.

The curtain is ready-made, hemmed at all edges and fitted with a curtain tape (for hanging with pleated hooks). We offer it in four lengths (150, 225, 245 and 265 cm), the hem is generously dimensioned at ten centimetres and can be left out a little for further length adjustment.

In principle, linen can be spun and tumble dried after washing, but it can shrink even more, even if it has been pre-washed. Above all, the linen fabric is more difficult to smooth. We recommend only half-loading the washing machine for linen curtains, as the fiber absorbs a lot of moisture, and letting the curtain dry on the line. This is gentle on the fabric and saves energy. Only spin-dry the curtain briefly after washing, if at all, and iron it while it is still slightly damp. If you want to preserve the lively, slightly wavy look of the washed linen, go over the fabric with a steam iron on the highest setting after washing, but without touching it - the iron should rather hover a few millimetres above the textiles.

The good reputation of the Mühlviertel weaving trade was already established around 1600 and in many communities, half of the inhabitants earned their income from weaving or related occupations. The raw material used by the weavers was flax, which was widely cultivated in the Mühlviertel at the time. At the time, weaving products were one of Upper Austria's most important exports. Since around 1700, strict quality and control regulations have ensured compliance with high quality standards. Standards that the traditional Vieböck weaving mill still works to today.

We specify the yarn count in Nm (metric number), whereby the higher the number, the finer the yarn. A yarn count of Nm 100 means that 100 meters of yarn weigh 1 gram. An additional number is added if the yarn is twisted from several single yarns, for example Nm 100/3 for a twisted yarn made from three single yarns.
