Hard to imagine and yet true: light was once a precious commodity, especially in the winter months. Without today's ubiquitous artificial light sources, which constantly illuminate our lives, the living rooms were in relative darkness after sunset. This had to be countered with sparkling brilliance, especially at Christmas, the festival of lights: a symbol of the message of Advent - the light that penetrates the night - and a "sensation" for the eyes of children and adults. Since the increasing demand for glass Christmas tree decorations in the 1830s, German glassblowers outdid themselves in the development of models that could catch, refract and reflect the light of the tree candles in a particularly effective way with the few materials available - glass, silver paint and metal wires.

Glass icicles are part of this "Christmas story" - and are still a sparkling eye-catcher on the Christmas tree today. Unlike the usual hollow, often decorated representatives of their kind on the market, our glass icicles are solid and have a lifelike design. A small glass factory in Budapest has mastered the art of not blowing the icicles out of the glass, but rather handcrafting the heated glass mass into its final shape by twisting and compressing it. Although the glass mass is heated above the melting point, it is not brought to the usual temperature for glass blowing (around 1,300 °C). This results in partial clouding during processing, which makes the glass icicles look all the more natural. Even the hanging loop is pulled out of the glass so that no foreign material detracts from the natural impression and the glass icicles reflect the sparkling Christmas lights in an atmospheric way.
