Every year in early spring, the gardening year begins with the growing season. We eagerly await the time when the days get brighter and plant pot after plant pot populates the windowsills of our homes, as tomato seedlings sprout from the growing soil and peppers, chillies and eggplants germinate. Our windowsill greenhouse creates the ideal growing climate.

The propagator greenhouse consists of two parts. Glass panes made of window glass are inserted into its removable metal frame with handle. Practical: one of the two sides of the roof can even be opened for ventilation. This prevents overheating inside and the resulting damage to sensitive young plants, even on sunny days.

The base section with a windowsill-compatible base area of 26 × 26 cm is handcrafted from naturally sealed wood - but not just any wood. This is because die Stadtgärtner uses wood from Indian mango trees for this product. So far, so normal: the older the mango tree, the more the taste of the fruit diminishes. However, this fact has usually meant that in plantation operations, the discarded trees were not even cut down, but simply burned on the spot. This circumstance was enough of an incentive for the company based in Nordhorn to think about a sensible reuse of the valuable natural material. The result is this propagator greenhouse, for which salvaged mango wood from plantations east of Dheli is used. Our tip: Instead of growing pots or a growing tray, four standard herb pots from the supermarket fit just as well in the wooden bowl. Basil in particular feels at home under the glass roof of the propagator.
