Handlebar bag cowhide

This beautiful handlebar bag is part of a series of bicycle bags and accessories that we have developed together with Greenbelts®. We have it made from the same supple cowhide leather as the Greenbelts® bags in our range, a soft yet very strong cowhide leather that is open-edged. The vegetable-tanned, barrel-dyed leather is robust, hard-wearing and weatherproof, making it just as resistant to daily use and heavy wear as it is to rain showers. To keep everything inside dry, the lid has folded edges. The generous use of materials and accurate workmanship with quilting seams as well as a little care from time to time ensure durability.

The design is based on the tried and tested Swiss army bags: simple, solid, designed purely for the purpose and with the characteristic (rustproof) rivets and ball button fasteners on the straps. The unlined main compartment and a slip pocket offer space for everything you need on the go: Wallet, cell phone, glasses case and keys fit inside. The bag is attached to the handlebars using straps and a ball button fastener. An optional shoulder strap can be ordered separately so that you can also carry the handlebar bag as a shoulder bag when you are out and about on foot.

The Greenbelts® label manufactures all-natural leather products, produces them in a fair way and follows the idea of sustainability. The idea of founder Rolf Ihmels, who is behind the brand based in the Osnabrück region, is that this approach helps to ensure that owners may enjoy the leather products for a long time. Ihmels has been in the industry for decades and has his current profession in his genes, so to speak: His parents’ company made belts, although they operated conventionally. In 2005, Ihmels went into business with his own brand. Based on his commitment to sustainability, he chose no new building for the company’s location but one that had previously housed a carpenter’s workshop. Next to the offices, he has vegetable-tanned full-grain cowhide processed into belts and bags. Ihmels works exclusively with European tanneries that guarantee all relevant environmental standards and provide solid, honest leathers that need neither lining nor padding. You can feel, see and smell the leather’s quality in the finished product. Plus, such leathers can merge into the natural material cycle at the end of the product’s life. Ihmels feels every piece of leather he processes was once the skin of a living being and should be respected and honoured accordingly. For this reason, he does everything in his power to process the leather in a way that preserves its value over a long time.
