This knife has been produced in Japan almost unchanged for over 100 years. A Japanese specialty is its three-layered blade made of paper steel: with a core, the cutting layer, made of hard carbon steel, which ensures remarkable edge retention, and the outer layers made of softer steel. The carbon steel of the cutting layer is a so-called blue paper steel, also known as aogami. This is created by adding chromium and tungsten to white paper steel, which further increases toughness and wear resistance. Aogami steel is characterized by high hardness and long-lasting sharpness. Incidentally, the name "paper steel" actually comes from the fact that the different carbon steels were traditionally wrapped in different colored paper. White paper steel and blue paper steel are among the highest qualities.

The special feature of this Higonokami version is the steel handle. It is worked with targeted hammer blows, which gives it its unique look and also ensures a good "grip" so that the knife lies comfortably and securely in the hand. When folded, the blade disappears completely into the handle, and the pocket knife can be easily opened again using the angled lever at the height of the joint. We deliver the Higonokami in a box made of paulownia wood. Paulownia is one of the fastest growing trees and is native to South East Asia.
