General Information
Whenever a little bell rings ...
... an angel gets his wings, as the angel Clarence already knew in the 1946 film classic "Isn't life beautiful?" Yes, it's been a long time, but maybe you'll take a chance and give wings as a gift in a set of four. Because these little glass bells really do fulfill their function: thanks to a small ball inside, they ring cheerfully as they swing back and forth. Thanks to their discreet size, they are not only decorative on a single fir branch, a wall garland or a door wreath, but also atmospheric when the door is opened and visitors enter - or perhaps even an angel walks through the room (to pick up his wings).
The craftsmanship of these glass ornaments is due to the traditional Thuringian art of glassblowing: Each little bell is carefully hand-blown into shape and mirrored on the inside using Liebig's silver-plating process to give it a festive radiance (silver reflects the incident light particularly effectively). After drying, each glass bell is hand-painted with gold paint and finally crowned with the classic metal cap for hanging.
Pure Matter of Form. Christmas tree ornaments between handicraft and mass production
The glassblowers of Lauscha used to call the figurative glass ornaments, which were blown into two-part negative molds "before the lamp", a matter of form. Today, as then, the lamp is the gas burner, whose flame keeps the glass viscous and malleable. And the molds that are used are also the same as 100 or 150 years ago. They are usually made of ceramic and must be handled with care, because in order to preserve them - and not overheat them in use - the molds must be gently cooled down again at regular intervals. Thus, no more than 150 figures or ornaments can be blown in one go. Only the starting material is different than in the past, because instead of glass tubes drawn specifically for this purpose, prefabricated flasks made of colorless soda-lime glass are now used.
