Nutcracker art with majestic splendor
Whether it's a king in majestic red or a hussar in a strapping posture: the nutcracker is one of the classic figures of folk art from the Erzgebirge. These nutcrackers are blown into shape in front of the lamp using traditional Thuringian glassblowing techniques. They owe their high radiance to Liebig's silver-plating process, in which the inside of the figurines is coated with a wafer-thin layer of silver - this makes them reflect the Christmas lights particularly effectively. After drying, each figurine is hand-painted with many details and decorated with a little mica; the royal crown is also set with colorful glass stones - as befits Her Majesty. Finally, each nutcracker receives the classic metal hat for the hanger - ready to shine as a Christmas decoration at any time. And with their rather impressive size of around 13 centimetres, these nutcrackers look just as decorative in a lavishly decorated Christmas tree as they do as a central eye-catcher on a single fir branch.
Pure Matter of Form. Christmas tree ornaments between handicraft and mass production
The glassblowers of Lauscha used to call the figurative glass ornaments, which were blown into two-part negative molds "before the lamp", a matter of form. Today, as then, the lamp is the gas burner, whose flame keeps the glass viscous and malleable. And the molds that are used are also the same as 100 or 150 years ago. They are usually made of ceramic and must be handled with care, because in order to preserve them - and not overheat them in use - the molds must be gently cooled down again at regular intervals. Thus, no more than 150 figures or ornaments can be blown in one go. Only the starting material is different than in the past, because instead of glass tubes drawn specifically for this purpose, prefabricated flasks made of colorless soda-lime glass are now used.
Hint:
This product is an example of genuine handicraft; therefore, minor deviations in size and colour may occur.
