The name Panama hat is a little misleading geographically: the supplier of the raw material, the toquilla palm (Carludovica palmata), and the people who expertly braid the young shoots of the plant are at home in Ecuador. The headdress first acquired its famous name when it conquered the world during the construction of the Panama Canal. The palm fibers for this Panama hat from Mayser also come from Ecuador - as they should. The diagonal hole pattern in the crown not only ensures good ventilation of the head, it also gives the hat a sporty traveler look in combination with the striking suede band. A wide ribbed lining band on the inside rounds off the good fit - making the hat extremely comfortable to wear on hot days.

When Leonhard Mayser opened his "Hutmacherey" in Ulm in 1800, he could hardly have imagined that Mayser hats would one day become a global brand, with an annual production of 3.5 million pieces in 1963, a record year (unsurpassed to date). Today, the production figures are far lower, but Mayser can still call itself a global brand with sales markets in 44 countries. The secret to the success of the company based in Lindenberg in the Allgäu, the former "Little Paris" of hat fashion, has remained the same for more than two centuries: Quality. While design, purchasing and sales are still based in the Allgäu, production was relocated to Slovakia in 2002. Mayser built its own factory there and also trains its own staff.
