Perennial spade

For working in narrow, densely planted beds or digging in a kneeling position, the perennial spade is ideal. Half spade, half flower trowel, this handy tool helps you prune out roots, loosen soil or prepare planting holes. With the pointed blade made of forged manganese-boron steel, which is slightly sharpened at the edges, even firm soil can be worked well and thinner roots can be conveniently cut through. Whichever of the aforementioned gardening tasks you want to do, the ash wood handle with a practical T-handle is very comfortable to grip. We obtain our perennial spade from a forge in Upper Franconia, which looks back on over 200 years of family tradition.

With forging, the Krumpholz family knows its stuff. Based in the Franconian Forest, the ancestors acquired the first hammer mill of their own - the Guttenberg Hammer - in 1799 and produced tools and other everyday items from forged iron. Today, the company's fortunes are in the hands of the eighth generation. The garden tools that leave the production site, which is still in its old location but has long since been modernized and enlarged, are tools of the first order: shaped under the weight of the forge hammer to suit their area of use, compacted and reinforced where necessary, provided with sharpened edges or blades and fitted with high-quality handles made of ash wood. Free-form forging, as practiced at Krumpholz, requires special skill and a sense of proportion. The steel used, a Swedish steel with chrome-molybdenum content, is tough, strong and easy to clean.
