In GDR times, these two were emblazoned on almost every toilet or bathroom door: Bine and Bubi Strull were still made of plastic back then. They were invented by Artur Backhaus, who produced them in the cellar of his house in the toy and doll town of Waltershausen in Thuringia. This reissue of the popular signs made of white bisque porcelain is the result of the interest and commitment of art teacher Claudia Matoušek from the small town of Radibor near Bautzen. She knew the playful room signs from her own childhood and was inspired by a recent flea market find to have them made again today. The production site is now in the porcelain town of Selb in the Fichtelgebirge. At the Marlene Kretzschmar manufactory, molds are used to cast the porcelain, which are specially modeled after the originals. Incidentally, Bine and Bubi Strull are very easy to attach to the room door: A double-sided adhesive plate is supplied with each tag, packed in a shatterproof paper-lined decorative box.

Certain manufacturing steps are carried out by hand. Slight dimensional and color deviations may therefore occur.
