The package contains:
Endive 'Batavian broad-leaved'
(Cichorum endivia)
Introduced around 1860, this variety is now regarded as one of the original varieties of the popular Batavian endive. Winter-hardy, vigorous in growth, mild and slightly nutty in taste. Prefers a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location in loose, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Sow from mid-May for a harvest from August until well into the fall.
Carrot 'Miso'
(Daucus carota)
Robust and requires little warmth. 'Miso' is an old variety with a good, aromatic taste. It can be sown directly outdoors and requires a sunny to semi-shady location in loose, stony, deep, humus-rich and moist soil (avoid waterlogging). The harvest period extends into November. Tip: Allow the seeds to germinate for a few days mixed with moist sand in a warm place.
Lamb's lettuce 'Elan'
(Valerianella locusta)
Vitamins for the winter months. Traditionally sown later in the year, lamb's lettuce can be harvested well into March. 'Elan' is a robust variety with an intense flavor. A sunny to semi-shady location in loosened, humus-rich soil is preferred. Keep moist, but avoid waterlogging.
Radish 'Rudolf'
(Raphanus sativus)
Suitable for intercropping even in the cold season. This radish variety comes from a traditional winter variety and has been adapted over generations to cool, low-light winter conditions. Sow directly outdoors by mid-September, harvest by mid-November. 'Rudolf' prefers a sunny location in loose, humus-rich, well-drained garden soil. Don't forget to water regularly, but avoid waterlogging.
Brussels sprouts 'Rubine'
(Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera)
Rare historical variety from the Netherlands. The striking purple florets and leaves are particularly decorative in the gray winter mood and provide bright accents in an otherwise (almost) cleared vegetable patch. Pre-culture from the end of March to the beginning of May, then plant out. Prefers a sunny to semi-shady location with deep, loose, humus- and nutrient-rich, heavy to medium-heavy soil. The harvest period extends from November to January.
Winter lettuce 'Baquieu'
(Lactuca sativa)
A traditional French variety from the 19th century that was specially bred for growing and harvesting in winter. Particularly frost-hardy, this lettuce with its reddish-brown leaves provides crisp freshness on our plates, especially in the cold season. Pre-plant from mid-January to the end of February or in September. Plant out from mid-March to mid-April or October to mid-November; preferably in a sunny to full sun location with loose, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, slightly loamy and moist soil. Avoid waterlogging and soil that is too heavy. Tip: Late sowing in September enables the first fresh lettuce harvest very early in the following year.
Tatsoi
(Brassica rapa subsp. narinosa)
Cultivated in East Asia since 500 AD. The fast-growing, dark and fleshy leaves of this vegetable have a delicate, spicy flavor and are very crunchy. The slightly nutty note with a hint of mustardy spiciness is not only suitable for Asian dishes. When briefly steamed, Tatsoi also tastes great warmed up in winter soups and stews or with Chinese cabbage and spinach. Sow directly outdoors from mid-April to mid-May or mid-August to mid-October. The harvest period then extends well into November. A sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location in loosened, humus-rich, nutrient-rich and well-drained soil is advantageous.
Winter lettuce 'Tremont'
(Lactuca sativa)
An old variety, known from the Swiss seed trade since 1879. With its red-spotted leaves, it is decorative in any winter vegetable patch. For a harvest from mid-April, sow between mid-January and the end of February. 'Tremont' prefers a sunny to semi-shady location with loose, humus-rich, nutrient-rich and moist soil. In the event of heavy frosts, we recommend spreading a protective fleece over the plants.

Some vegetables only develop their taste and aroma at low temperatures. For a late harvest in fall and winter, they are sown from July at the earliest. Some varieties, such as the winter lettuce 'Tremont' included in our compilation of tasty winter vegetables, are even on the sowing calendar in January and can be harvested well into spring. Season extension in the best sense of the word, as nothing stands in the way of a year-round harvest and supply of fresh home-grown vegetables. All of the winter vegetables in this range are also suitable for growing in raised beds or small home gardens with vegetable patches - you don't need a large kitchen garden and can still make profitable use of the time when the growing areas would otherwise usually lie fallow. Last but not least, the seeds in the wooden box also make a decorative gift for gardening enthusiasts.
