The combination of fine dark chocolate with a 70% cocoa content and black mint oil extracted in Summerdown's own distillery is a delicacy in itself. After all, the rather dark aromas of the chocolate complement the clear, fresh notes of the mint perfectly. Here, however, the rich texture of the chocolate is successfully complemented by crispy, crunchy sugar crisps.

Until the early 20th century, England was famous for its exceptionally good mint. Sir Michael Colman (1928-2023), a mustard manufacturer who had been involved in spices and pungency for more than four decades, decided in 1995 to revive this quality and counter the often inharmonious peppermint oils, mostly imported from Asia, with the clear, balanced taste of English peppermint. To this end, he founded a farm in Hampshire where he had the essential oil of the famous Black Mitcham mint extracted from the field-fresh plants immediately after harvesting - in a specially constructed distillery. The result is a rare, intense, pure peppermint oil that is second to none and is still responsible for the incomparably good taste of Summerdown's products today.
